Meet the Team

I'm a husband to an awesome wife, and two great kids. We're an active family and big believers in the benefits of active lifestyle and team activities. I've been involved in athletics and sports my entire life, with years of experience in coaching and program design. I'm excited to be a part of Recess and the opportunity to help kids become more active, learn the values of teamwork, and have a blast while doing it!

I’ve had many jobs, but my very favorite job is being Brooke and Brady’s mom! From organizing camps in my neighborhood as a child to being a first grade teacher as an adult, my love for teaching always shines through. I have been homeschooling my children for over 10 years and have many years of experience coaching youth sports. As a lifelong athlete, I believe movement is so important at any age. I love to encourage confidence and leadership through healthy competition and teamwork. I believe the skills Recess is equipping its students with will be incredibly rewarding and valuable as they grow and learn!

I have experience serving as a camp counselor and lifeguard, and I've grown to love working in this supportive environment. While working at camp, I've developed practical skills in child safety, first aid, and conflict resolution, as well as leadership skills that involve effectively guiding groups and fostering teamwork. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, I've reaped the benefits of teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition. Growing up with three brothers taught me the importance of close camaraderie. I am eager to bring my energy, experience, and passion to inspire these children to grow in leadership, confidence, and most importantly, to have fun.

I have a passion for working with children and fostering their growth through mentorship and encouragement. My experience includes coaching basketball camps and serving as a camp counselor, where I’ve had the opportunity to connect with kids of all ages, inspire teamwork, and help them develop confidence and skills in a supportive environment.

As a mother of four boys and a lifelong athlete myself, I am excited to bring Recess to the Upstate! I cannot remember a time when I wasn't physically active, playing youth and school sports, then training and participating in triathlons and seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As a mom, I am intentional about raising well rounded children to be successful adults in the future. Life is full of challenges, and one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the ability to embrace unpredictability. A big part of this is learning how to fail, bounce back, and grow stronger. These are the lessons we will be tackling during Recess...building resilience, adaptability, and strength. Let's make it happen!
Meet the Founder
MICHAEL RUSSELL
Michael here!
My wife, Lexi, and I have four really cool kids who are to thank for all of this.
I like to think I'm a professional dad, but (like all professional dads) I'm really just a big kid with a fully developed prefrontal cortex and the ability to herd many children in the same direction and have a good time doing it. We're a homeschool family who, at the end of the day, just wants to give our kids the best childhood possible while teaching them how to be genuinely good people and successful in life. Recess is a means to that end, and if that resonates with you...well, you're in the right place.
